As I live in Scotland most of my ancestry originates here, with of course the obligatory Irish thrown in. Even if you don't think you have any Scottish connections, please look around, you might just find one of those strays. |
Being originally from Glasgow I am often asked to help out people from more distant parts with their queries about their own family history as well as about Glasgow itself. Unfortunately, lack of time usually makes this prohibitive. One aspect which often causes problems is the changing face of Glasgow. With its industrial expansion and then the urban regeneration, many of the older streets were renamed, causing problems for people looking for them on modern maps under their original name. To assist in identifying these streets, I've created a list of the renamed streets as published in the Post Office Directory of 1937/38 and included it in the links below. |
| I've also included lists of the Registration Districts of Glasgow and Lanarkshire, both accessible from here or the main page. There are a couple of pages detailing a source from which census indexes for Lanarkshire (1851 and 1861) and Glasgow (1861) can be obtained . Information on the Poor Relief Applications for Glasgow is also given. |
There's also a page of links, not large, as others are better qualified than me to give them . Finally, if you want to put a face to my name just click here. |
